The Brief
A major logistics operator required 80 smart EV charge points across a multi-acre depot site to electrify its vehicle fleet — with DNO application, grid reinforcement and a load management system that could handle overnight bulk charging without triggering demand penalty charges.
Grid Reinforcement and DNO Liaison
The existing site supply was insufficient for the additional load. Con-Tec managed the full DNO application process — including load flow modelling, protection coordination and the formal Section 16 contestable works — and oversaw the new HV transformer and associated LV distribution network from design through to energisation.
Smart Load Management
80 smart charge points were connected to a central load management platform, enabling dynamic charge scheduling based on fleet departure times, grid import tariffs and on-site generation forecasts. The system reduces peak demand charges while ensuring all vehicles are charged by start of shift.

Live and Operational
All 80 charge points were energised and connected to the load management platform within the agreed programme. The grid reinforcement works were completed under a live DNO Section 16 agreement, with no interruption to the existing site supply during construction.
