EV Charging

EV charge point design and installation for commercial and industrial premises — OZEV guidance compliance, DNO application, smart load management, grid reinforcement and full BS 7671 commissioning.

What a commercial EV charging project actually has to solve

01

An existing supply that can't carry the EV load

Adding 7kW charge points at scale imposes significant additional load on the site supply. We carry out a load flow assessment and supply capacity review before specifying any charge point — so the electrical scope is fully costed before the project begins, and supply upgrades are planned rather than reactive.

02

Peak demand charges triggered by simultaneous charging

Unmanaged charging across a large fleet or car park triggers demand peaks that increase both network capacity charges and energy costs. Smart load management systems distribute the available capacity across charging sessions — we design and commission these systems as part of the installation.

03

A DNO application process you don't know how to manage

Larger EV installations require G99 notification or full engineering recommendation approval from the distribution network operator. We manage the full application process — including load flow modelling, protection coordination and formal DNO submission — so this doesn't become a programme blocker.

04

Future-proofing for a fleet that will grow

Installing the minimum number of charge points today at the minimum supply capacity creates an expensive upgrade problem tomorrow. We design EV infrastructure with the future fleet size in mind — providing supply headroom, cable routes and distribution capacity for the anticipated full deployment.

The Numbers

Charge points in one project

80

80 smart EV charge points installed across a multi-acre logistics depot — including DNO G99 application, grid reinforcement and load management system.

Grid capacity reinforced

5MW

New HV transformer and LV distribution network installed under a DNO Section 16 contestable works agreement on our largest EV infrastructure project.

Fleet coverage guaranteed

100%

Smart load management ensures all vehicles are charged by start of shift — without triggering demand penalty charges.

Why specify Con-Tec

EV Infrastructure Built for the Fleet You'll Have

01

Pre-works supply assessment

We assess supply capacity and load flow before specifying a single charge point — so the full electrical scope is costed before the project commits.

02

Smart load management as standard

We design and commission OCPP smart charging and load management systems as part of every commercial installation — not as an optional extra.

03

DNO application management end to end

G99 applications, load flow modelling, protection coordination and formal DNO approval managed from first submission through to commissioning confirmation.

04

Future-fleet capacity designed in

Distribution capacity, cable routes and earthing infrastructure sized for the anticipated full deployment — so adding charge points later is an extension, not a redesign.

01

Supply & Fleet Assessment

Load flow assessment, supply capacity review and fleet charging demand modelling before any design work begins.

02

Design & DNO Application

Charge point layout, sub-main circuit design, load management specification and G99/G98 application submitted at the start of the design stage.

03

Installation

Sub-mains, cable routes, charge points and load management system installed by NICEIC-approved engineers — coordinated with the car park or site programme.

04

Commission & Handover

Smart charging system commissioned and tested, full BS 7671 testing, DNO confirmation and documentation package at handover.
